Pardon the Punctuation...Nestled on a busy street in a grungy part of North Hollywood sits Mofongos restaurant . Had they not been a featured deal on Living Social, I probably would have never heard of them. With the coupon we got two drinks, one appetizer, two entrees, and one dessert. We sat outside which was nice since it was cool outside and they allow dogs. There are only four tables outside but it worked for us perfectly. To drink we had "Jupina" a pineapple soda and for our appetizer we had "Pasteles de Pollo" which are basically pork filled tamales. I was amazed at the quality of the food from such a "hole in the wall" place. The pork was not greasy and just full of flavor. Our two entrees were the "Mofongo de Pechuga", and the "Bistec Encebollado." The mofongo wasn't heavy and tasted like a home cooked meal. It was filled with grilled chicken breast and I ordered a side of tostones. These were the best tostones that I've had since moving to Los Angeles. Perfectly seasoned and just the right thickness and consistency. Bistec encebollado is a traditional flat steak dish smothered in grilled onions. Accompanying it were sides of black beans, white rice, and sweet plantains. Killer is the best way to describe this dish and at a just $10.50 it's great bang for your buck. By the time dessert came around we were stuffed but it was included with the deal so we got the tres leches. After a few bites we were done but not because it wasn't delish. When you're in the mood for down home caribbean food, Mofongos is the place for you. Finally, a place in Los Angeles that reminds me of home.
