I grew up in Miami, the son of Cuban exiles and for most of my life that was the Hispanic culture, I connected with the most. 15 years ago I moved to Los Angeles and discovered a new-found love of Mexican culture. This inspired me to make a bloody mary recipe that melds my heritage and the Mexican heritage of my new city. A Spicy Cuban Bloody Mary. If you know one thing about Cuban people it's that we love our rum and we're looking for an excuse to have some. Why not have some in a delicious spicy bloody mary? It seems like a winning combination to me. This was the perfect opportunity to create a drink that brings together two of my favorite cultures.
Scooted over to the closest Walmart in Burbank to scoop up my ingredients. Ran out the door so fast that all my reusable grocery bags were left behind. Thankfully Walmart has cool reusable bags so I was all set. Clamato® Tomato Cocktail Picante is the perfect base for my bloody mary. Clamato is the authentic tomato cocktail that has the extra kick of spice that I need in one bottle without having to add hot sauce to the recipe. One bottle is enough so I was good to go. Here is everything you need and yes I know that prosciutto has nothing to do with Latin heritage but I don't care. This is my recipe and I want some yummy salty Italian ham as part of my garnish. :)
3 ounces white rum
½ ounce lemon juice
5 ounces Clamato Picante juice
1 ounce of fresh lime
⅛ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Cornichon to garnish
Slice of prosciutto to garnish
Here's what you do. Pour everything but the garnishes over ice into your glass. Stir well, then add the cornichon and prosciutto. Now it's time to enjoy the pure yumminess in your glass. You're welcome.
